Satellite dishes eat yer heart out
This morning I was walking down the street in the Pijp in Amsterdam when this collosal antenna caught my eye. It was at least 4 metres wide. Does anyone know what it could be for? I am intrigued.

Looks like one of those 27mc radio amateur antennas.

But if that’s amateur radio broadcasting, then it’s illegal right? Not a particularly inconspicuous piracy antenna

As far as I know 27mc is perfectly legal. It’s not pirate radio as in radio stations. 27mc was more of an early version of instant messaging, where people with weird nicknames used to talk over the radio.

Het ziet eruit als een ouderwetsche “bakkie” waarmee je de politie/brandweer/ambulances mee afluistert.

It has nothing to do with pirates, cb radio or intercepting police…. It ‘s a typical setup of an amateurradio antenna. The big one below is for lower frequencies (HF). The top ones are for higher frequencies. A radioamateur is someone who experiments with radiowaves and equipment to make contacts all over the world. It’s not illegal. You just have to pass and exam by the governement and pay the annual duties

Hi there,
What you are looking at are the antenna’s from PA3BMQ.
He is a hamradio so it’s quit legal
The big antenna is for shortwave, the 2 on top are for VHF [145 MHz] and UHF [432 MHz]
