Mommy, Isaiah called me a faggot… :-(
One of my favourite series at the moment is Grey's Anatomy and one of my favourite characters was George O' Malley (T.R. Knight), the rather goofy, erm-ing and err-ing intern at Seattle Grace Hospital. But after seeing the actor's interview on Ellen, regarding an incident in which his colleague actor Isaiah Washintgton (who plays Dr. Burke) apparently called him a faggot, I am more than a little disappointed in T.R. How big a deal can you make of this?
If Isiah called him a faggot then that's out of order, but for God's sake get over it and be proud rather than going on the Ellen show to whine about it like someone took your chocolate milk. Instead of being a man and confidently saying that Isaiah Washington was out of order, T.R. Knight just sits there erm-ing and err-ing more than ever (is he putting on his stumbling George act to gain sympathy?), explaining in a very insecure way how the rest of the cast didn't know 'it' about him yet and that he was so pleased to have Ellen as a celebrity coming-out example to give him courage. Ugh - puke.
Oh come on. A decade ago, Ellen's show was gonna be axed because she's gay. She made a point of coming out and publicizing the homophobic attitude at ABC/Disney - which at the time was an important milestone for the gay and lesbian community. But I feel that now, in 2007, even though there's still much homophobia to be tackled, being a strong, out and proud actor is much more of a statement than whining, "Mommy, Isaiah called me a faggot and made me have to come out of the closet. ". Grow some balls, T.R.
