Nabaztag

NabaztagNabaztag is the new Furby, the new Tamagotchi, the new Cabbage Patch Kid... and it has a belly button! This WiFi rabbit needs a place on my desk because surely I could never live without the cute fella reading out my emails to me and telling me the latest stock market trends. It can also do Tai Chi, play MP3's, subscribe to RSS and tell me what the weather is like in Tokyo. Essential stuff!

The demo's on the Nazbatag site sound like normal men and women's voices though which is a little disconcerting coming out of a miniature white rabbit. I would have expected some cute little voice. It also does 'historic speeches'... hmmm I feel a whole series of YouTube videos approaching with Nabaztag doing one of those shrieking Hitler speeches from the 1930's.

Nabaztag is available in Holland from MyCom and at the Bijenkorf for €129 and a new set of ears will set you back €12,95.

Here's one of the few YouTube videos that actually explains (in a rather monotonous American drawl) what the Nabaztags can do.

  1. OOH! That\’s a really cool gadget! But you are quite right about the voices, both of the nabaztag itself AND the guy on the video. How boring! Still, the things it can do makes it a great companion in the office. You could save lots of time, while Nabby reads alout all the weblogs and incoming email so you don\’t have to check all the time. You can quickly record messages, ideas whatever, always handy. And Nabby can also reflect your mood, so when, let\’s say, you share a studio with somebody, they\’ll know when to stay clear! ;-)

I think 129 euro\’s is a good investment in both a supergadget time saving office device and your relationship!

  2. This has been available for quite some time. There\’s a second version out that adds features like a microphone and a RFID scanner. There\’s lots of paid subscriptions, so make sure it does what you want for free…

Also, version 2 (\”nabaztag/tag\”) is the first to support WPA networks, which in my book is a must.

  3. Yes, they call it \’The second first ever WiFi rabbit\” ;-)
