Google Paranoia Continues

As I read more and more about Google's growing monopoly position regarding indexing and distribution of the world's information - both public and personal - I have come to the conclusion that I am going to have to find an alternative to GMail. They already have two years worth of ALL my mail correspondence stored. My chances of becoming Prime Minister of The Netherlands are null; there's more than enough dirt in there on me ;-) .

Of course, I'll probably do my research into GMail alternatives using the Google search engine. Hmmmm. I love GMail because it is in my opinion, the most inutitive online mail program out there. Their threading of messages based on the subject is unequalled (as far as I know). I shall really miss that if I step away from GMail.
"Step away from the GMail, madam and put your hands behind your head."
But after watching the (Dutch) documentary below, my paranoia is getting the better of my GMail user experience.

If anyone has any tips for GMail alternatives (and please don't say Hotmail) then let me know!

  1. I just noticed something about this documentary. They use search strings like “the truth about 9/11″ as examples of how certain controversial opinions come up on top when googling. Yet the most common reason to use that specific phrase (“the truth about”) in a webpage is if you denounce the official story. It’s only logical that conspiracy theorists turn up. Bad search input as opposed to bad search logic. The same goes for the example about the holocaust.

Bashing Google is so easy, and yet every time I hear them explain things I get the impression that they’re genuinely trying to design algorithms that are unbiased and prioritize information based on the best possible measures of relevance.
