Microsoft Strikes Back
In an attempt to heal some of the damage done to the image of PC's by Apple's "I'm a PC and I'm a Mac" adverts, Microsoft has embarked upon a new advertising campaign. Their concept is to kill the stereotype of a PC user as a clueless nerd in a brown suit. To be honest, I think this is a pretty good response to the Apple ads - but I'm still sticking with Apple.
By the way, the actor that portrays the PC in the Mac ads is actually a Mac user in real life.

Justin Long (the mac guy) had never owned a computer prior to filming the commercials, according to an older interview I read.
I love that MS made this. The Apple ads may be funny, but they’re really unfair. (Here in The Netherlands, commercials are usually more civilized). Macs are great, but so is my Vista PC. Not just because it’s half the price of a similarly equipped Mac (it would probably have to be a Mac Pro), but also because Vista is a pretty decent operating system. In fact, I don’t think it ever crashed on me in the year and a half I’ve been using it now.
How much time do you spend ‘in’ your OS anyway? You use it to launch apps, and whether your copy of Photoshop runs on a Mac or a PC will make very little difference once you’re editing images.

The question is not “how much time do YOU spend ‘in’ your OS”, but “how much time do other people spend in your OS?” Mac has always been a much ‘safer’ OS than Windows, since there are less virusses active for the Mac. And although a PC-box might be somewhat cheaper than a Mac (and is always third party), the MS OS is a lot more expensive than the Mac OS. And for me the design makes a big difference: I just love the looks of my Mac!

Well ‘always’… MacOS 9 and earlier were notoriously unsafe, but like OSX it’s main security feature was that no one was trying to hack it because of its lower market penetration.
I’ve had no security issues with Vista. I simply keep my (free) firewall and anti-virus software up to date. In fact those apps do it for me.
And as for Vista’s price, the popular Home Premium edition can be had for 90 euros. And there isn’t a new felid-named update every few months you need to pay for.
I agree about the design. I know people who run Windows XP on brand new MacBook Pros because of the good looks.
